Hilary Duff is being slammed after fans noticed her 8-month-old daughter's ears are pierced, with some even claiming child abuse. The "Younger" star is getting mom-shamed on social media after posting a picture with her daughter, Banks Violet Bair, which shows the infant wearing diamond earrings. Taking to her IG story, Duff wrote, "Yes we pierced her ears."
In the black and white picture, the tiny tot seems to be happy while playing with Mom's glasses.
Dressed in a cute stripped jumpsuit with floral turban, it's hard not to see Banks' shiny new bling.
The backlash is rough, with many questioning her parenting skills and accusing her of inflicting unnecessary pain on the young child.
"I can't believe someone who seemed so screwed on pierced her babies ears, causing unnecessary pain that isn't for medical reasons done by a fully qualified medical professional is child abuse in my eyes," one follower ranted. "The risks are unreal and that throbbing pain in her ears no matter how happy and looked after your child is just isn't justified in my eyes."
Another follower mirrored that person's stance, arguing they "can’t fathom why you would you think it’s okay to have your daughters ears pierced."
Not everyone is critiquing the mom though.
Several fans rushed to her side, defending Duff for her decision.
"Baby is fine and ear piercing is so far from abuse! But hey, lets promote mom shaming and online bullying from all the keyboard warriors," wrote a supporter.
"I don't know why people feel the need to mum shame?" commented another fan, adding "there are far worse things parents do to their children."
Hilary Duff and her now-fiancé, Matthew Koma, welcomed their first child together in October.
Announcing the news to the world, the actress shared an adorable family photo saying Banks had "stolen our hearts" and is "absolute magic."
Banks joined the family of four, which also includes Duff's 6-year-old son, Luca Cruz, whom she shares with ex-NHL player Mike Comrie.
